Meet Chef Jacob

Influenced by the grace and effort of his Great Grandmother, Jacob Burton developed a familiar connection with the kitchen. It was there, on his childhood dinner table, where he first witnessed the alchemy of basic ingredients turned majestic. With a foundation being laid at an early age, Burton carried the fascination through college; where he enrolled at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. While at CCA, he talked his way onto the staff of La Folie, an intimate fine dining restaurant in the city. There, he moved up systematically in the kitchen. By the time of his graduation, he had worked at every station; gaining valuable experience in a Michelin Star winning environment. To this day, he regards his time at La Folie as one of the smartest business decisions he has ever made.

“With his harmonious cooking style already evident, Burton brings his strength and passion for 'everything cooking' to The Cedar House Sport Hotel’s, Stella.”

After his time at La Folie, Burton left the city life in the rearview and headed for the rustic Tahoe Mountains, where he was hired as a line cook at The Lone Eagle Grille in Incline Village’s Hyatt Regency. After gaining a sense of life in the corporate world, he accepted the Sous Chef position at The Big Water Grille, where he worked under North Lake’s renowned Chef Jay Veregge. While learning from Veregge, he matured as a cook, eventually starting his own podcast – Free Culinary School – to share his culinary endeavors. Burton believes that the only way to truly master a skill set is by teaching, and when he was ready to embark to a position of leadership, he was a master of the kitchen. The destination: Fredrick’s Fusion Bistro. His third stop in Lake Tahoe’s Incline Village was the perfect setting. With a small and cozy environment, Chef Jacob had a direct influence on every plate being served to his guests; the evolution that started with the fluency of his Great Grandmother was complete.

With his harmonious cooking style already evident, Burton brings his strength and passion for “everything cooking” to The Cedar House Sport Hotel’s, Stella. The restaurant is the newest addition to the avant-garde hotel. Winner of the North Lake Tahoe’s Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Award in 2008, The Cedar House fuses the power and spirit of the mountains it is blanketed in. Encompassing the beauty of the surrounding landscape with the ambience of a European getaway, the hotel’s rapport will only grow stronger with the arrival of Chef Jacob.
