Situated on a pine-and-snow-covered slope in the Sierra Nevada, the Cedar House is an elegant yet cozy assemblage of natural materials, including peeled cedar logs, uncoated and gracefully rusting recycled steel and warm cast concrete. High-tech materials like strandboard, made from sawmill waste, and burgundy-colored Richlite paper composite, and lots of coated insulating glass, lend a lightness to the structure.
Part of the roof supports beds of native plants that provide habitat for birds and insects while keeping the building cool in summer.

Old World class comes to new Truckee hotel

The Cedar House Sport Hotel, located on Brockway Road next to Mountain Home Center, will be opening in a matter of weeks and will offer guests many of the amenities found in European mountain accommodations.
"Truckee is ready for something that's not moose heads and bear rugs," said Cedar House owner and local developer Patty Baird.
